NC DOT engineer discusses Independence Blvd. project
If you drive on Charlotte's Independence Boulevard much at all, you'll probably agree the road needs some improvement. And for years, the plan has been to turn Independence into an expressway. But some residents of east Charlotte don't want that. They fear it would hurt already-struggling businesses and neighborhoods in that part of the city. And now they're upset with planners after an alternative idea for expanding Independence was dismissed without their input. North Carolina DOT Division Engineer Barry Moose says that alternative - a so-called super street - was explored after some criticized the expressway plans. Moose says residents and business owners will have another chance to weigh in on the Independence project, Thursday, April 15, at the Park, formerly the Merchandise Mart. The meeting will start at 6 p.m.
