A tragedy occurred Wednesday in Union County. Two pit bulls attacked and killed a 5-year-old girl named Makayla Woodard. Her grandmother was also injured trying to save the girl's life. It's as least the second pit bull attack in the Charlotte area in the last month. In December, a pit bull attacked a 6-year-old in Matthews. A group that tracks dog attacks called Dogsbite.org reports there were 33 fatal dog attacks in the U.S. last year. Pit bulls were responsible for 67 percent of them. WFAE's Mark Rumsey spoke to Dr. Barbara Sherman about pit bull behavior. Sherman is director of the animal behavior service at North Carolina State's veterinary school. She's also just finished a term as president of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists. Listen to conversation.
