The North Carolina Governor's office today released updated figures on the loss of life and property from Saturday's tornado outbreak. According to the governor, another confirmed death in Bertie County means that 24 people died in the storms. Half of those deaths occurred in that county. All together, more than 130 people were injured and more than 430 homes were destroyed. Over 6,000 homes suffered some sort of damage. Most of those were in Wake County - the most densely populated area the storms hit. The governor's office also provided the first glimpse of how many people are out of work because of the storm. Right now, that number is estimated at 2,000. Half of those are at a factory in Lee County that was demolished by a tornado.
