A psychiatrist at a state mental hospital in Goldsboro ended up in the emergency room earlier this month after she was badly beaten by a male patient. The Cherry Hospital doctor was not wearing a body alarm, due to a shortage at the facility. She'd been issued a whistle, but didn't manage to blow in time. Staff safety is a growing concern at the hospital - the Raleigh News and Observer reports a staff member is assaulted every 36 hours on average. Reporter Michael Biesecker has been looking into conditions for staff and patients at Cherry Hospital for many years. Biesecker spoke with WFAE's Scott Graf.
