A tip from Charlotte police to Lancaster authorities led to the seizure of four pounds of heroin valued at half a million dollars.
South Carolina Law Enforcement Division chief Mark Keel says the high price of opiate-based prescription painkillers like oxycotin is making heroin more popular.
"Unfortunately heroin is coming back. We're starting to see more heroin today. And a lot of that has to do with narcotic drugs or prescription drugs that people are getting taking place for those drugs because prescription drugs can be very expensive."
Last week, police arrested 25-year-old Joseph Chasteen and 19-year-old Cody Howard as they were driving away from a house in Indian Land. They were charged with trafficking heroin among other charges. They are being held without bond at the Lancaster County Detention Center.
