Over the past hour, the National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for Mecklenburg and the surrounding counties. There have been no reports of tornado touch downs or damage.

But the National Weather Service advised people to use caution.

"Tornados can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms," The National Weather Service said. "Although a tornado is not immediately likely, if one is spotted, act quickly and move to a place of safety."

There is a tornado watch until 7 p.m. and a flash flood watch until 8 p.m. for the Charlotte area and much of western North Carolina.
