Charlotte High School Student Dies From Bus Crash In Argentina
A Providence Day School student died one week after a bus crash during a student trip to Argentina, according to a statement released by the school Sunday.
School officials said Deven Sawyer was a part of the upper school -- which contains grades 9 through 12. No further details of Sawyer's death have been made public.
Ten upper school students and two faculty members were involved in the bus crash that occurred in Buenos Aires on June 17, school offficials said. The school said several students and two chaperones were injured. Another person was killed in the bus crash, but the second victim was not affiliated with the school.
Providence Day School said the entire community is grieving the loss of the student.
“We are engaged in a school-wide effort to comfort and support our students, teachers, and friends,” the school posted to Facebook. “During this challenging time, the care and support of the family and our Providence Day community is our top priority.”
Seven students returned from Buenos Aires last week. Two more returned Saturday. The school has not reported the current condition of the other students.
