The Mecklenburg County District Attorney dropped the charges against a Charlotte activist involved in protests after the police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott.
Activist group Charlotte Uprising said in a Facebook post that the Mecklenburg County District Attorney dropped the charges against Gloria ("Glo") Merriweather Tuesday, less than two weeks before the case was set to go to trial.
According to reporting by the Charlotte Observer, prosecutors said they had insufficient evidence to take the case — which charged Merriweather of inciting a riot and assault on a government official— before a jury.
Merriweather is part of Charlotte Uprising, and was believed to be among a group that damaged police cars and threw rocks and water bottles at police officers. Police arrested more than 100 people participating in demonstrations following the death of Scott.
