Police: Man Shot And Killed After Breaking Into Store In East Charlotte

American Beauty Garden Center

A man was shot and killed early Monday morning by the owner of a gardening store after police say the man broke into a building off Independence Boulevard.

The incident took place at the American Beauty Garden Center in east Charlotte around 4:30 a.m.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Justin Tyler Anderson, 20, smashed the front glass door to break into the store. The store’s owner called 911 and said he was responding to an alarm at the store. The owner, who hasn't been identified, had spotted the suspect on security camera footage. The owner then called again to say he shot someone at the store after the suspect ran outside the front door.

After getting shot, Anderson ran behind the business where he was found when officers arrived.

Police said it appears the Anderson broke in then ran out the front door, and that’s when the store’s owner shot and killed him.  Anderson was pronounced dead on the scene. No arrests or charges have been made. This is an ongoing investigation.
