Union County Co-Workers All Chipped In And Won $1 Million Lottery Prize

NC Education Lottery

Twenty-two co-workers with Union County's Department of Social Serivces are each $32,000 richer after sharing a $1 million lottery prize from Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing.  The North Carolina Education Lottery says the co-workers all pitched in $1 to buy 11 Quick Pick tickets from the Zoom Express on Skyway Drive in Monroe, one of which was a winner.

Some of the winners told lottery officials after collecting their prize they’ll use the money for investments or to pay off debt. Others said they'll use it to travel.

Barbara Medlin of Marshville said she’s going to use the money to adopt a second child, which she and her husband had been saving for.

Lamont Reaves of Matthews is doing something a bit different with his share of the prize. He said he’s using the money to visit the last Blockbuster store in Oregon, calling it “historical and nostalgic.”

Where the 22 people work has not been identified.
