Help Needed In Finding Missing Johnson C. Smith University Historical Marker

Johnson C. Smith University

State officials are asking the public for help in finding a historical marker that disappeared from its spot near Johnson C. Smith University about six months ago.

The N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources says it has exhausted all leads in finding the marker that had been located on Beatties Ford Road at Dixon Street. The sign noted the university’s establishment in 1867.

A spokesperson for the state agency says that in the past, missing historical markers have been found on beaches, in barns, fraternity houses and the mountains. The JSCU marker would cost about $1,800 to replace.
