RIDGEVILLE, S.C. — Authorities say an inmate at a maximum security South Carolina prison was killed by his cellmate.
The state Corrections Department says 31-year-old Matthew Williams was found dead in his cell Friday at Lieber Correctional Institution.
Prison officials said on Twitter that investigators think he was attacked by his cellmate and they expect to file charges.
Authorities did not name the cellmate or say how Williams died.
Prison records show Williams was serving a 10-year sentence on strong arm robbery charges out of Greenville and Union counties.
