Political Circus Now Heads To South Carolina

South Carolina Government

Now that the New Hampshire Primary is a done deal, the political circus is pulling up stakes and heading to South Carolina. First up, the Republican presidential hopefuls. They’ll make at least 14 stops across the state.

More than 25,000 presidential political ads have already aired in South Carolina, according to data compiled by Kantar Media.

Now the pace of ads will increase and the candidates will step up on the stump to pitch themselves in person.

The first event of the day is a Jeb Bush rally in Hilton Head starting at 11:15 a.m. Bush will then head to events Charleston and Murrells Inlet. The other former governors, Chris Christie and John Kasich will also hold three events each around the state.

As for the Republican senators looking to get elected president, Ted Cruz has just one event today beginning at 11:30 a.m. in Myrtle Beach. Marco Rubio has three, a noon rally in Spartanburg, 3 p.m. in Columbia and 6:15 p.m. in Charleston.

And as for the candidates who don't hold political office, Ben Carson holds a fundraising event at 6 p.m. Donald Trump holds a 7 p.m. rally at Clemson’s Garrison Arena.

The Democratic presidential hopefuls have yet to release their South Carolina plans. But they have a bit more time than the Republicans. South Carolina’s GOP Primary is on February 20. The Democrats vote a week later.

Tom Bullock decided to trade the khaki clad masses and traffic of Washington DC for Charlotte in 2014. Before joining WFAE, Tom spent 15 years working for NPR. Over that time he served as everything from an intern to senior producer of NPR’s Election Unit. Tom also spent five years as the senior producer of NPR’s Foreign Desk where he produced and reported from Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Haiti, Egypt, Libya, Lebanon among others. Tom is looking forward to finally convincing his young daughter, Charlotte, that her new hometown was not, in fact, named after her.
