Elections Board Says No Bitcoin Donations For Candidates Running For State Office
Campaign donations for state offices won’t be accepted in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, says the North Carolina Board of Elections.
According to the Raleigh News and Observer, state elections director Kim Westbrook Strach said cryptocurrencies can’t be reliably valued and state campaign finance laws limit donations in terms of U.S. dollars.
A candidate for the legislature had put that question to the board earlier this year.
In 2014, the Federal Election Commission allowed candidates for federal office to accept Bitcoin donations.
