Former President Obama announced his endorsement Wednesday of six candidates vying for General Assembly seats in the midterm elections.

His list includes: Wiley Nickel (Senate District 16), Ron Wesson (House District 1), Terence Everitt (House District 35), Julie von Haefen (House District 36), Sydney Batch (House District 37) and Rachel Hunt (House District 103).

In his twitter announcement, Obama said he endorsed “leaders as diverse, patriotic, and big-hearted as the America they’re running to represent.”

Obama also said the leaders will “restore opportunity” and “repair [America’s] alliances and standing in the world.”

“But first, they need our votes,” he added.

All of the candidates have released statements saying they’re honored to receive the former President’s endorsement.

State Democratic Chairman Wayne Goodwin said the party is proud of its candidates running for seats in the General Assembly.

“North Carolina Democrats are immensely proud of our candidates for receiving President Obama’s endorsement and we look forward to seeing how their hard work, dedication, and commitment to Democratic values brings positive change to North Carolina,” Goodwin said.
