Democratic presidential candidates are back campaigning in North Carolina as early in-person voting ends in the state for the Super Tuesday primary.
Former Vice President Joe Biden scheduled a rally at St. Augustine's University in Raleigh around lunchtime on Saturday, the final day of early voting.
Michael Bloomberg, the former New York City mayor, planned an afternoon rally in Wilmington. He and Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar were among Saturday night's scheduled speakers at the state Democratic Party's "Blue NC Celebration" at a Charlotte hotel. Gov. Roy Cooper planned to be there, too.
Early-voting sites in all 100 counties started Feb. 13 and ends at 3 p.m. Saturday. People can register to vote and cast a ballot at early-voting locations. But only people already registered can vote at local precincts on Tuesday's primary day or by mail-in absentee ballot.
Close to 528,000 people had voted in person at early-voting sites through Thursday, according to State Board of Elections data, or less than 8% of the state's 6.9 million voters. In the March 2016 primary, 10.5% of the electorate cast early in-person votes.
Tuesday's North Carolina primary also includes elections for governor, U.S. Senate and House, and Council of State and legislative seats.
