The next North Carolina legislative election is still 18 months away, but a rematch is already shaping up in a north Mecklenburg House district that was decided in a narrow vote last fall.
Cornelius Republican John Bradford says he will try to win back the 98th District seat he lost last November. Bradford will challenge incumbent Democrat Christy Clark, who beat him by just over 400 votes.
The district includes the towns of Davidson and Cornelius and parts of Huntersville. The election will be in November 2020.
In a press release, Bradford listed top state Republicans and some local elected leaders as supporters. He also has begun sending out fund-raising pitches to potential donors.
“I am proud to announce my candidacy for 2020 and humbled to have widespread support from many local community leaders and elected officials,” Bradford said in the press release. “It was an honor serving our community and the people of North Carolina the last several years, and I look forward to a great campaign to serve once again.”
