Join The Independent Picture House and Sugar Creek Library on Tuesday, June 11 from 5:45pm to 8pm at the library for a screening of the award winning documentary 'A Decent Home' (2022).

'A Decent Home' is a documentary about manufactured homes in America. Focused on how these last vestiges of affordable housing are facing trials as rich landowners raise rent and evict them from the land they rent, but do not own. This is a topic the Charlotte community, as well as other cities throughout the county, faces every day.
Indie on Wheels will include a screening of the documentary followed by an audience discussion with YWCA Central Carolinas' Rebecca Stickel, LCSW and Pivot Point Transitional Housing's Barry Shipp. As Director of Housing, Rebecca oversees the Women In Transition program and Families Together program. YWCA's housing programs provide safe, affordable housing and intensive support services for families and women facing homelessness in Charlotte. This is a free community event. Barry Shipp is the Founder and CEO of Pivot Point Transitional Housing, a Charlotte-based nonprofit that builds safe, supportive, dignified places as a “pivot point” for achieving more productive, satisfying, and self-directed lives.

For the second time CTTC is giving focus to the origin of theatre productions by beginning at the beginning with the playwright. The work of the playwright is central to the world of theatre. They are the originator, interpreter, and voice of individual communities and institutions. Playwrights have the power to write stories that reflect and shape our culture. Through their writing, they introduce audiences to new ideas, perspectives, and experiences, challenge societal norms, and encourage critical thinking.

For two weekends CTTC will shine a spotlight on two different playwrights, presenting a directed and rehearsed reading of their play. This unique event offers audiences a rare opportunity to witness fresh, original stories from voices in our own community.

The Race, written by Brian Daye is about an African American criminal defense attorney agrees to represent a White Supremacist Death Row Inmate falsely accused of murder. The attorney is the White Supremacist’s last hope for a clemency appeal before the inmate is scheduled to die by lethal injection at midnight on Christmas Eve morning.

Massage Group Therapy, by David Schoenfeld, centers around four female massage therapists who face challenges like blurred boundaries, emotional labor, and client entitlement, affecting their work and personal lives.
