Immerse yourself in the space where reality and fiction intertwine in “Masquerade,” an intra-active, contemporary, operatic dance performance set to electronic symphonic music, sung live by soprano Sage DeAgro-Ruopp. A perennial fan-favorite, this internationally acclaimed, Philadelphia-based troupe artfully finds the line between beauty and innovation — then boldly dances on it — and this truly unique theatrical work is no exception, creating a world where truth belongs to the imagination of the beholder.

The Gesualdo Six is a British vocal ensemble comprising some of the UK’s finest consort singers, directed by Owain Park. Praised for their imaginative programming and impeccable blend, the ensemble formed in 2014 for a performance of Gesualdo’s Tenebrae Responsories in Cambridge and has gone on to perform at numerous major festivals across UK, Europe, Canada and Australia.

Concert Program: "Fading"
Evoking a contemplative atmosphere with music inspired by the ancient service of compline. Since the fourth century, the service of Compline has marked the end of the day, ushering in the darkness of the night. Much of the music here is inspired by this ancient service, evoking a contemplative atmosphere, including renaissance polyphony by Lobo, Sheppard and Gesualdo that contains startling harmonic shifts and expressive word painting. Then there is a turning point; the light returns, birds sing, and flowers bloom once more, with contemporary reflections by Veljo Tormis, Joanna Marsh, and Sarah Rimkus.

The Providence Chamber Music Series' Sunday February 16, 2025 concert at 6:30 pm features “Romantic Music” for you and your Valentine. Violinist Peter DeVries and pianist Paul Nitsch will perform Dvorak's Sonatina in G major, Op. 100, B 183 and Fritz Kreisler's Liebesleid (Love's Sorrow) and clarinetist Allan Rosenfeld will perform Schumann's Drei Fantasiestucke, Op. 73 for clarinet and piano with Mr. Nitsch.

What Can a Biblical Monster Teach Us About Ecological Crisis?
The 40th Annual Loy H. Witherspoon Lecture, "Loving Behemoth: Queer Animality, Ecospirituality, and Biblical Interpretation,” will be presented by Ken Stone, Ph.D., Distinguished Service Professor and Professor of Bible, Culture, and Hermeneutics at Chicago Theological Seminary. The lecture examines the question, in a time of ecological crisis, can biblical interpretation foster a spirituality that encourages “biophilia,” a love of living things? In a little more than 30 years, prenatal genetic testing has evolved into a routine practice adopted by millions of pregnant women around the world. Still, many people question the practice, citing moral and ethical concerns and raising urgent questions about disability rights and reproductive justice. Supporters defend the technology on the grounds that genetic information about the fetus helps would-be parents make better family planning choices. In their book, Prenatal Genetic Testing, Abortion, and Disability Justice, Amber Knight, Ph.D. and Joshua Miller, Ph.D. challenge that assessment by exploring how genetic testing can actually constrain pregnant women’s options. In an effort to balance a complicated array of factors — including familial, social, and financial support they can reasonably expect to receive — prospective parents must make crucial and compelling decisions about whether or not to raise a disabled child. In an ableist society without institutional support for care work, many pregnant women may be steered toward the “choice” to terminate.┃chess.charlotte.edu

Glassblowing duo Silicasaurus Glassworks will join the talented artists at Starworks Glass to put on a fiery demonstration Thursday, February 13 at 5:30pm. Hot Glass Cold Beer is a monthly glass demonstration that runs September – May with special guest artists, live music, rotating food trucks, and beer & wine.
