Composer Craig Hella Johnson takes us on a deeply meaningful and transformative journey, telling Matt's story with text drawn from news coverage, from of Matt's mother and father, and from Matt's own journal.

Join the Gay Men's Chorus of Charlotte and the Women's Chorus of Charlotte as we combine to present Considering Matthew Shepard. It's a story that's both beautiful and hard to hear, but truly inspiring. If we listen and are open, we have the opportunity to shift our perspectives and open our hearts.

Saturday, April 22 join us for a special evening version of our Death and Dying tour, 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm.

Death and Dying for families in the North Carolina backcountry was an ever-present reality.

Join us as we explore the place of death in everyday life for families like the Polks, common diseases and associated herbal remedies, as well as burial rites and rituals for Scotts-Irish settlers and enslaved African-Americans. Additionally, the tour will delve into the history of the Polk Site Cemetery.

Suggested donations for this special tour are $7 for adults; $3 for seniors (62+) and children 13-18. This tour is recommended for children 13 years and older.

The tour will last around 40-45 minutes and include the Kitchen House and the Polk Family Cemetery.

Saturday, April 29 join us as we welcome representatives from the Catawba Cultural Center to the President James K. Polk State Historic Site from, 10am-12pm.

They will present Catawba History 101, an overview of 6,000 years of Catawba Nation's history, in our auditorium. Afterwards, a drum group will perform songs for dancers to demonstrate various styles of dance outside on our historic grounds.

25 vendors offering gems, minerals, rocks, fossils and other Earth related items.

We also have a working Gem Mining sluice and a Geode Cracking Station.
Educational events are offered to any group or organization (Eg Scouts and other Youth Groups, schools etc) that would be interested in learning about Geology, Mineralogy and collection of specimens.

For the Struggle, Inc. will hold its 4th Annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 17th from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Senior drive between Dr. Webber Ave and LaSalle Street- in front of West Charlotte High School. For the Struggle, Inc. has partnered with several nonprofit organizations in the Charlotte community to organize this grand celebration on Charlotte’s historically black corridor. The celebration will include special accommodations and seating for senior citizens, kids games, face painting, jumping houses, a game truck, tens of vendors, live performances and appearances from Hugo of the Charlotte Hornets! Free admission also includes free prizes and giveaways for people who register for the event on Eventbrite. Registration is free!

The Leaders in Action Lecture Series provides the McColl School of Business and Queens University’s campus community with an opportunity to interact with and be exposed to a variety of leaders with varying leadership styles and experiences. The lecture events are hosted in an intimate setting where the audience can ask questions and hear personal and professional leadership experiences from our guests.

We will also be bringing back our Kids Dash and virtual race options. What Can a Biblical Monster Teach Us About Ecological Crisis?
The 40th Annual Loy H. Witherspoon Lecture, "Loving Behemoth: Queer Animality, Ecospirituality, and Biblical Interpretation,” will be presented by Ken Stone, Ph.D., Distinguished Service Professor and Professor of Bible, Culture, and Hermeneutics at Chicago Theological Seminary. The lecture examines the question, in a time of ecological crisis, can biblical interpretation foster a spirituality that encourages “biophilia,” a love of living things?
