  • Join us each Saturday October 9 through November 6 at 10am for a special tour about Death and Dying in the North Carolina backcountry! The tour will explore the place of death in everyday life for families like the Polks, common diseases and associated herbal remedies, as well as burial rites and rituals for Scotts-Irish settlers and enslaved African-Americans. Look through the Main House, Kitchen House and garden, and discover our family cemetery! This tour will cover about 1/4 mile, and we recommend wearing sturdy walking shoes. Tickets are $7/person and are available to preorder.

The race will take place within the 70+ acres of Charlotte’s Historic Elmwood and Pinewood Cemeteries. Participants will run by the likes of Belk, Ivey, Morrison, Tate, and Blake, just to name a few of the resident luminaries. The post-race event will include an awards presentation, DJ, food trucks, and guided tours. All proceeds help support the 501(c)3 nonprofit, Historic Elmwood Pinewood, Inc. (HEPI). Help us support the cemetery’s restoration and preservation while getting some exercise and enjoying some history! Can’t make the race but still want to support?   • Join us for the first annual Pigs & Pearls fundraiser on Sunday, April 3rd from 2–6PM! We’ve teamed up with BuildOn to travel to Nicaragua to build a school that will ensure the community’s access to quality education. Pigs & Pearls will have pulled pork, oysters, plenty of fixins, live music, a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and more! Tickets are $35 and will include a plate of pork, 3 oysters and sides.   • Join us for an evening of live music with violinist Andrew Finn Magill! A North Carolina native, Andrew Finn Magill, will provide an interactive performance and lecture on the “evolution of Irish and Scottish fiddle traditions in the Appalachian Mountains.” Participants will enjoy fascinating historical information and a toe-tapping musical performance.

  • Some Charlotte City Council members continue to have second thoughts about the elimination single-family zoning in Charlotte, nearly six months after the new ordinance took effect.
