Opera Carolina’s Madama Butterfly

Opera Carolina's Madama Butterfly Two mediums of art come together to make for a whole new experience for art enthusiasts, on this edition of Charlotte Talks. We'll be joined by internationally renowned opera star Yunah Lee, as she makes her Opera Carolina debut in the title role of Madama Butterfly - one that she's known for all over the world. We'll talk about what she brings to one of the world's most popular and best known operas and we'll also meet a sculptor who is helping to make Madama Butterfly new - at least in terms of scenery. Jun Kaneko has re-created the costuming and scenery for the popular opera and also has a current exhibit of his sculpture at the Mint Museum. Guests Yunah Lee - Korean soprano who plays Cio Cio San ("Butterfly") in Madama Butterfly (Yunah Lee's website) Fernando Portari - Brazilian tenor who plays American Naval Lieutenant B.F. Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly James Meena - General Director and Principal Conductor at Opera Carolina Carla Hanzal - Curator at the Mint Museum of Art Jun Kaneko - Japanese-born Sculptor who did the new sets and costuming for Madama Butterfly.
