Already this year Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control has taken in 12,168 dogs and cats. Although these numbers are down from a few years ago, the challenge of rehoming a pet is especially tough in the face of limited resources, puppy mills and breeders. It can even be hard to get owners to properly care for the pets they have. But, some local agencies are working tirelessly to educate the public and rescue these dogs and cats.
