Charlotte Talks Friday News Roundup: County Votes 'No' On Soccer Stadium; PGA Comes to CLT

Friday August 4, 2017

On this week's local news roundup, Mike Collins and the roundup reporters discuss Mecklenburg County Commission saying no to funding a soccer stadium, the legislature having one month to redraw 28 legislative voting districts, the PGA Tournament getting ready to play through Charlotte, and much more.

The Mecklenburg County Commission has voted 5-3 against funding for a soccer stadium, choosing only to provide the land. That's after County Manager Dena Diorio said she's found a way to pay for the county's parks projects that have now been on hold for nearly a decade.

A panel of federal judges have ruled that Republican leaders of the General Assembly have one month to redraw 28 state legislative districts ruled to be illegal racial gerrymanders.

A committee within the UNC Board of Governors has voted to bar university centers and institutes, most notably the UNC Law School's Center for Civil Rights, from engaging in litigation- with a full vote in September.

The PGA Championship comes to the Queen City next week, and officials caution area residents on planning for traffic and crowding during the event.

Those stories and more are on the docket with host Mike Collins and the roundup reporters, on the local news roundup.
