Charlotte Black Pride wrapped up its annual festival this month with parties, performances and community events celebrating the city’s Black LGBTQ+ community. But behind the festivities, organizers were confronting a growing financial challenge.

Across North Carolina’s public universities and some private campuses, diversity, equity and inclusion programs are undergoing a major overhaul.
