A Gaston County man robbed a bank for $1 so that he can get access to free health care in jail, Rad Berky of WCNC-TV reports. James Verone handed an RBC Bank teller a note that said "This is a bank robbery. Please only give me one dollar," Verone told Berky from the Gaston County Jail. He then waited for police to arrest him. "If it is called manipulation, then out of necessity because I need medical care then I guess I am manipulating the courts to get medical care," Verone said. Verone said he doesn't have health insurance. He wants doctors to check out a growth on his chest. He also says he has two ruptured disks and an ailing left foot as well. Verone, 59, would like a three-year sentence. He says he could then start collect social security upon his release and head to the beach.
