Delbert McClinton On Mountain Stage

Texas blues favorite Delbert McClinton performed on Mountain Stage.

Delbert McClinton made his second appearance on Mountain Stage in May of 2001. An institution among fans of texas blues, honky-tonk and rock & roll, McClinton worked for decades before finding mainstream success in the 80's and 90's. This is not to say he toiled away in obscurity, as McClinton has been revered as a musician's musician since the early 60's – he wrote the Emmylou Harris hit "Two More Bottles of Wine," and before that gave harmonica lessons to John Lennon. This set draws heavily from McClinton's Grammy-winning album Nothing Personal, which is remarkable in its own right. But in a unique Mountain Stage moment, McClinton performs the songs "Read Me My Rights" and "Givin' it Up" with blues singer and pianist Marcia Ball, who appeared earlier on the very same show. Host Larry Groce said of Delbert McClinton, "There is no better roadhouse or honky-tonk singer around. There are a lot of people who would like to sing like him, but nobody does."
