Members of the American Postal Workers Union in Charlotte protested the potential privatization of the U.S. Postal Service on Thursday afternoon.
Union members gathered outside the USPS office in the Park Road Shopping Center, joining a national day of protest against potential plans to privatize the postal service and or be under the U.S. Department of Commerce.
The U.S. Postal Service has already seen a change in leadership with the departure of Postmaster General Louis Dejoy and the start of cost-cutting efforts by the DOGE service.
There are more than 500,000 postal workers across the country. Local postal worker Cindy Foster said if cuts are to come down it would have a major impact on people in rural areas outside of major cities.

“They rely on their mail being brought to them, many of those that are senior rely on checks,” Foster said “Not everybody's automated and does direct deposit, etc., but they rely on checks to be mailed to them. They also rely on medications. Small businesses that are out in the rural area heavily rely on our services.”
Foster also said the postal service going private could also have a major impact on consumers with prices of mail.
