A man was arrested in Charlotte on two counts of attempted murder in connection with the stabbing of two people on a transit bus, police said.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Reginald Jakes, 27, was arrested on Friday.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday when a man pulled out a machete and stabbed two people on a Charlotte Area Transit System bus. Both people were taken to the hospital with injuries said not to be life-threatening.

Jakes was found near E. 7th Street and N. Dodger Avenue and interviewed before he was transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. It's not known if he has an attorney.

Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, which is near the scene of the incident, was placed on lockdown, but a hospital spokeswoman said the man never entered the building.
