The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education made another round of new principal appointments earlier this week. It comes as news surfaced of at least two principals in the district who’ve been suspended.
The board appointed five new principals to fill vacant roles.
- Erica Ellis will be principal at River Gate Elementary.
- Amira Abdelhafiz will be principal at Villa Heights Elementary.
- Melissa McFarlane will be principal at Elon Park Elementary.
- Michael Lee takes over at Cato Middle College High School.
- Misty Sweat takes over at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Virtual School and PACE Academy.
It caps off a flurry of principal appointments that began earlier this month, when the district approved principal transfers and appointments affecting 20 schools.
There are also questions about the suspension of two of the district’s principals: Jamie Brooks at Ardrey Kell High School and Jennifer Schroeder at Randolph Middle School. CMS has declined to disclose the reasons for the suspensions, but both schools made headlines earlier this year for high-profile fights.
