Ardrey Kell High School principal Jamie Brooks was suspended with pay on May 2, according to public records first reported by WCNC.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools declined to comment further on the suspension, telling WFAE it cannot comment on a personnel issue.
Brooks became principal of the school in 2020. Ardrey Kell made headlines in March when the family of a Muslim girl said the girl was beaten by another student in an alleged anti-Muslim incident — though law enforcement declined to treat the incident as a hate crime.
Advocates for the family had criticized the school’s handling of the situation, but it’s unclear if the May suspension was related.
A recent petition calling for clearer communication about Brooks' suspension has garnered more than 600 signatures.
