The latest survey of drug and alcohol use in CMS middle and high schools shows some encouraging results. Tobacco use in 2008 was down nearly 4 percent from two years earlier, from 16.7 to 12.8 percent; and alcohol use dipped 3.2 percent. There was also a slight decrease in the number of kids who smoked marijuana. The survey of 4,199 students was conducted in November and December by Substance Abuse Prevention Services of Charlotte. Executive Director Helen Harill spoke to WFAE's Mark Rumsey.
