At Least 20 Injured In Union County School Bus Accident

At least twenty people are recovering from injuries sustained from an accident involving a Union County School bus this morning.

Union County Emergency Medical Services says the students’ injuries are mostly minor like cuts, bruises and scrapes.

According to the State Highway Patrol, the school bus was on its way to Piedmont Middle and High Schools this morning shortly before 8 o’clock.  The bus’s driver, Jennifer Blake, veered onto the shoulder of Unionville Indian Trail Road, then overcorrected.  The bus overturned and hit a minivan traveling in the opposite direction.

Blake and at least seventeen students were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.  So was a two-year old passenger in the minivan.  The mini-van’s driver, Stacie Pressley, was airlifted to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Union County EMS says another fifteen or so students were picked up by parents.

Union County Public Schools says Blake has been with the district since September.

The state highway patrol says charges against her are pending upon further investigation.

There was another Union County school bus accident this morning.  The district says a car hit a bus serving Forest Hills High School.  No students were on board and the driver was treated for minor injuries.
