CMPD To Expand Victim Services Program

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is extending its Victim Services program to include families who have lost loved ones to traffic related deaths.

So far this year there have been 36 fatal car wrecks in Mecklenburg County – that’s 7 more than this time last year. In response, CMPD is offering support groups, counseling, and other resources to these families. Linda Roberts lost her 26-year-old son when he was hit by a drunk driver.

“We hear about homicide but we don’t hear as much about the victims involved in traffic crashes. They’re not accidents – they’re crashes. They’re preventable. And the families need the support,” Roberts says.

She says she’s glad CMPD is now offering this program and plans to volunteer.
