Sit-In Planned To Protest Council Member's Comments On Trump Supporters

City of Charlotte

Activists upset with a Charlotte City councilwoman's comments about Trump supporters plan to show up to tonight's city council meeting to mark their opposition.  The Charlotte Regional Republican Volunteer Network said in a Facebook post it will hold a sit-in in response to comments from city councilwoman Dimple Ajmera. She said on WCNC last week that Republicans who support President Trump "have no place on City Council whatsoever or in the mayor's race." Ajmera is running for an at-large council seat. Ajmera clarified her comments on Facebook saying the voters of Charlotte will decide who to elect and it’s not about political party but about Trump’s destructive policies.

The Charlotte Regional Republican Volunteer Network said Ajmera’s comments amount to a ban on the voice of Trump supporters and it’s the act of a tyrant. The group's founder told theCharlotte Observer he expects the people attending tonight's meeting will also include unaffiliated voters, independents, and even a few Democrats.
