CMPD says officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at 11:52 p.m. in the 300 block of Jones Street, off Rozelles Ferry Road.

When they arrived, they found a man with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead by Medic.

Police have identified the man as 30-year-old Stephen Giles.  No further information was available Thursday morning.

It was the 11th homicide of 2018 in Charlotte.

Police say they're searching the neighborhood for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or visit charlottecrimestoppers.com.

Also this week, CMPD said a 17-year-old suspect is now facing charges related to the shooting death of another 17-year-old, Daquan Shannon, at a gas station on Central Avenue early Sunday, March 4.

Tyrelle Dai’shon Gaston of Charlotte was charged with shooting into a moving vehicle. Police said he turned himself in on Tuesday after he was identified as being at the scene during Shannon's killing.

Gaston was being held at Mecklenburg County Jail, with bail set at $25,000.
