Police say two people were shot and killed early Sunday at an east Charlotte apartment complex.

Police on Monday identified the men as Gerardo Arellano-Sanchez, 33, and Miguel Angel Molina Cruz, 31.

When officers arrived at the apartments on Electra Lane just before 12:45 a.m., they found three shooting victims outside a building. Arellano-Sanchez and Cruz died at the scene, and a 24-year-old man was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries.

The investigation was still in its early stages. Police haven't said what led to the shooting. The apartment complex is near Idlewild Road.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 704-432-Tips to talk to a homicide detective.

The shootings come amid a violent year for Charlotte, which earlier this month saw 2019's homicide total surpass the entirety of 2018.
