Police: 3rd Person Charged In Killing Of NC Mother Of 5

MONROE POLICE DEPARTMENT

A third person has been charged in connection with a violent home invasion in Monroe that left a mother of five children dead.

The Monroe Police Department says 30-year-old Kristen Chambers turned herself in Tuesday after a warrant was issued for her arrest. Chambers is charged with conspiracy to commit second degree burglary and accessory after the fact to first degree murder in the July death of Lucera Sosa Capote.

Police say Capote was shot to death while trying to protect her children during the home break in. Two of her five children were treated for minor injuries that happened during assault. Monroe police say two people broke into Capote's home on Tower Court about 4:40 a.m. July 12 and were heard demanding money before she was shot.

Byron Watkins, 25, and 19-year-old Antwan Sturdivant were previously arrested and charged with first degree murder, armed robbery and related offenses in Capote's death.

Marshall came to WFAE after graduating from Appalachian State University, where he worked at the campus radio station and earned a degree in communication. Outside of radio, he loves listening to music and going to see bands - preferably in small, dingy clubs.
