Police say one person was shot and killed and two others wounded early Thursday in Charlotte.

Someone called 911 just after 12:30 a.m. to report an assault in the 700 block of Holland Avenue, near Atando Avenue in the Druid Hills area. When police got to the scene, they found 19-year-old David Wayne Burns dead in a car. Two additional gunshot victims were found nearby and taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that weren't considered life-threatening, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

As of 6:30 a.m., police had not said what might have led to the shooting.

It's the fourth homicide investigated in Charlotte this year — and it's the third in less than a week in the same area. On Saturday morning, police said they found Siojovan Joseph and Asa Shannon, both 35, dead inside a car at the bottom of an embankment in the 1400 block of Atando.

CMPD hasn't said how Joseph and Shannon were killed but classified their deaths as homicides.

Last year, there were 107 homicides in Charlotte.

The police department asks anyone with information on the cases to call 704-432-8477.
