A fire engine rolled over in north Charlotte Sunday morning, injuring three firefighters on their way to an alarm.

The wreck involving Charlotte Fire Department's Engine 28 happened around 4:30 a.m. on Sunset Road just east of Interstate 77.

The fire department said in a press release that the engine was headed to a residential fire alarm. Four firefighters were on board. Three were taken to the hospital where they were treated and released.

Charlotte Fire Department said the firefighters' injuries were not serious.

The fire department didn't say what caused the crash. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's crash unit is investigating.
