Children's Theatre Helps Give 'Extreme Makeover'

The Children’s Theatre has been staging performances for over sixty years.

The sets they build, however, do not have the same longevity. They are up for only three or four weeks.
So the Theatre’s set designers had their hands full last year when Extreme Makeover: Home Edition asked them to construct two children’s bedrooms – on a one week deadline.
Andrew Gibbon is one of the two set designers that helped with the project.

“It was somewhat approached like a theatrical project, but slightly different”, says Andrew Gibbons. He was one of the two set designers that helped with the project.

Unlike the Theatre’s other projects, this project needed to be durable.

“Sometimes in scenic work we can build things out of Styrofoam,” says Gibbons. “But you can’t put something like that in a child’s room.”

As for any details on the room design – Gibbon’s lips are sealed. He can’t reveal any details until the show airs this Sunday night.

But it’s something he’s been waiting for one year to see.

“Unfortunately we never got to meet the family,” Gibbons says. “That’s probably the one thing I am looking forward the most - is to see the children’s reactions to these rooms.”
