After weeks of demonstrations demanding a new approach to policing, we hear from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney and Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden about their departments’ reactions to these demands and their new policy proposals.
For weeks, demonstrators have taken to the streets across the nation to protest the overly aggressive tactics used by police, particularly against African Americans.
Even as demonstrators protested police tactics, some departments used some of those same tactics to gain control of crowds – many of whom were peacefully protesting. And discussions have taken place highlighting just how difficult it has been to engage in police reform.
Putney and McFadden have both promised policy changes in their departments, and both will join us to share their departments’ reactions to these demands and their plans for a new approach to policing.
