Three separate shootings in Charlotte Sunday took the lives of three people, according to reports by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. The first call came in around 1 p.m. CMPD responded to reports of a shooting in west Charlotte near Interstate 77 and LaSalle Street.

They found Daimeon Johnson, 40, with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Anthony Walker, 26, has been charged with Johnson's murder. He has been arrested and is currently in custody at the Mecklenburg County jail.

Around 2 p.m., CMPD was called to Heritage Park Apartments in East Charlotte near Albemarle and W.T. Harris Boulevard. Police found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds. Shalecia Williams, 21, was pronounced dead at the hospital. CMPD says the male victim is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Reco Lamont Perry, 23, has been charged with Williams' murder. CMPD and Gastonia Police located and arrested Perry without incident. Beyonce Rorie, 18, was also charged with accessory to murder. Both are in custody at the Mecklenburg County Jail.

At 8:25 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting at an Extended Stay America on Yorkmont Road in southwest Charlotte. They again found a man and woman with gunshot wounds. Tyrena Inman, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene. The man is being treated for a non-life threatening injury.

These three deaths bring the city’s homicide count to 43 this year. In all of 2018, Charlotte had 57. The previous year was particularly deadly year with 87 homicides.

Speaking to reporters yesterday, CMPD Major Mike Campagna said once again, it’s going to take a lot of work to tackle this problem.

“There’s a lot that can be done, I think, but they have to be done holistically,” said Campagna to WSOC-TV last night. “It’s a community-wide effort that has to involve our faith communities, our schools, our medical facilities, our academics – all of these people have to be involved in solutions.”

Correction: An earlier version of this story said there have been 42 homicides in Charlotte in 2019. CMPD verified that there have been 43 homicides.
