North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced his appointments to the new state board of elections Thursday. The governor has chosen three Democrats and two Republicans to serve on the board.
Two members are returning to their spots on the board: Democrat Stella Anderson and Republican Ken Raymond. Democrats Bob Cordle and Jeff Carmon III, and Republica David C. Black are all newcomers. The board’s first task will be holding a long-delayed evidentiary hearing on allegations of ballot fraud in the 9th congressional race.

The previous board twice declined to certify the apparent winner, Republican Mark Harris, whose campaign has faced accusations of illegally collecting absentee-by-mail ballots in Bladen and Robeson Counties.
The board also voted unanimously Thursday afternoon to elect Cordle, who's from Charlotte, as the new board chair and Anderson, of Boone, as secretary.
