Police say a man was shot and killed Tuesday night just north of uptown Charlotte.

CMPD says officers were called to the 1500 block of North Tryon Street just before 9 p.m. and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds on the sidewalk near a gas station. He was taken to a hospital but died.

The man's name was not immediately released. Police say he was in "an altercation" with a contract employee of the business when the shooting happened.

The man’s death is the 108th homicide CMPD has investigated this year. It’s the deadliest year in Charlotte since 1993, when there were 129 homicides reported. Last year, there were 57 homicides.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call 704-432-8477 or CrimesStoppers at 704-334-1600.
