Police are looking for a man they say killed a woman in southwest Charlotte on Monday afternoon before fleeing with his two young children. The children have since been found safe.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a warrant for murder has been issued for 35-year-old Edward Garner, whom they consider armed and dangerous. He’s accused of shooting 28-year-old Aiesha Shantel Summers at the Tryon Park at Rivergate Apartments in the Steele Creek area in a domestic incident.
He was also charged with murder of an unborn child after a medical examiner determined Summers was 24 weeks pregnant.
Police believe Garner then took his children, ages 1 and 3. Both young children were found safe and unharmed with relatives on Tuesday morning. A third relative initally reported as being with Garner was also unharmed and came to police headquarters after seeing his photo on the news, CMPD said.
Garner was last seen driving a white 2000 Mercedes S430 with a sunroof and license plate No. HCV-1629.
Summers' slaying is the 71st homicide in Charlotte this year. There were 58 in all of last year.
The police department asks anyone with information on the case to call 704-432-8477.
