The last alternate juror has been selected for the trial. Opening statements will be given on Monday.
Jury selection continues today in the murder trial of Rayquan Borum, who faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of Justin Carr.
The 12 jurors and one alternate have been selected. Two more alternates are needed. Borum faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of Carr, who was shot in uptown Charlotte during the second night of protests after the fatal police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott in September 2016.
The selection process for the remaining alternates continues today. Judge Gregory Hayes is asking for a total of three alternates because of the expected length of the trial. He noted that in the last several cases he oversaw, alternate jurors were called to step in during the deliberation process.
The jury pool, which started at 52, has dwindled to four. If alternates are not found within this small group, both the state and defense have agreed to bring in 20 new potential jurors for questioning.
Judge Hayes said he expects opening statements to begin Monday.
