Medea and Hason have escaped the worst. After a harrowing journey across the Mexican–American border, the couple has made it safely to the States, where they can work toward a better life for their family. While Hason is convinced the future looks bright, Medea fears a darker fate as they face the challenges of living without documentation.

With poetry, humor, and heart, Mojada is a bold new telling of a story as old as tragedy itself. Blending Euripides’ classic with Mexican folklore, MacArthur Genius Award-winning playwright Luis Alfaro examines the tragedy behind America’s immigration system and the destiny of one family caught in its grip. A stirring drama about love, immigration, and sacrifice, Mojada combines ancient storytelling with the most pressing issues facing our country today, following a young Mexican mother who gives up everything to bring her son to America, only to find America demands even more.

Mojada is published as part of The Greek Trilogy of Luis Alfaro. Based on Sophocles' Electra and Oedipus, and Euripides' Medea, Alfaro's Electricidad, Oedipus El Rey, and Mojada platform the concerns of the Chicano and wider Latino communities in Los Angeles and New York through ancient drama.

Content Warning: True to the original Greek tragedy, the play includes mature situations, violence, adultery, and the murder of a child. As well as adult language in both English and Spanish. Mojada is recommended for adult audiences.

This project is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.

Saxophonist Adrian Crutchfield is known around the world for creating and performing music in a variety of genres such as jazz, funk, hip-hop, rock, and more. Adrian’s star began shining at the age of four when he received his first saxophone during a concert in Roanoke, VA from acclaimed jazz artist Kenny G; who noticed Adrian’s interest from the audience, stopped the show, and invited him to the stage, playing a childish melody, and finally bestowing the sax to young Adrian.

Known as the last horn-man to perform and record (2012-2016) with Prince and the New Power Generation; Adrian is featured on many of Prince’s final masterpieces including the 2017 Grammy-Nominated Hit-N-Run Phase 2.

Adrian has also had the privilege of performing with many of today’s brightest stars such as Lionel Richie, Bette Midler, Ceelo Green, R&B icon Anthony Hamilton, Fantasia Barrino, KC and JoJo, and with hip hop superstar Young Jeezy. In jazz Mr. Crutchfield has been featured by names such as Brian Culbertson, Kim Waters, Mike Philips, Alex Bugnon, Jeff Lorber, and Branford Marsalis; and with legendary groups such as Fourplay and The Gap Band featuring Charlie Wilson.
