  • Indigenous peoples’ ethnographic objects have entered museums through a variety of collecting methods. As a result, many of these items have lost the ties that connect them to the names of their original makers and owners. This loss in documentation is reflected in museum collections across the world, and while outside researchers can employ the technique of close looking to learn more about specific objects, individuals from the material culture’s own community can sometimes answer questions and make connections that add significantly to the accession records and overall museum dialogue.

This project is part of a three year commitment to produce Luis Alfaro’s groundbreaking Greek Trilogy
The desert is on fire. It’s being consumed by fury as Electricidad, burning with grief and hatred, keeps vigil by her murdered father’s corpse. She longs for the sweet revenge that will set his spirit free. When her brother Orestes returns from exile, Electricidad’s anger explodes, consuming everything in its path and leading her family to a final shattering confrontation. Transporting Sophocles’ Electra to the Los Angeles barrios, MacArthur Genius Award-winning playwright Luis Alfaro investigates violence, loss, and redemption through the lens of this age-old tragedy. Electricidad crackles with intensity, and transforms a 2000-year-old text into a vibrant, vital and thoroughly unforgettable myth for the modern age.

Electricidad is published as part of The Greek Trilogy of Luis Alfaro. Based on Sophocles' Electra and Oedipus, and Euripides' Medea, Alfaro's Electricidad, Oedipus El Rey, and Mojada: A Medea in Los Angeles platform the concerns of the Chicano and wider Latino communities in Los Angeles and New York through ancient drama. Three Bone Theatre is proud to produce all three works of this trilogy across three seasons.

True to the original Greek tragedy, the play includes mature situations, smoking, violence, drug and gang references, and adult language in both English and Spanish. Electricidad is recommended for adult audiences
