Charlotte Ideas Festival Featuring Derek Thompson
The Charlotte Center hosts the Forum featuring Derek Thompson, staff writer at The Atlantic and No. 1 New York Times bestselling author, for a forward-looking conversation on how we can move from a world defined by scarcity to one shaped by abundance. With clarity and optimism, Thompson explores how bold ideas, innovative policies and risk-taking strategies can help us unlock extraordinary growth and possibility.
In this talk, drawn from his book Abundance (co-written with Ezra Klein), Thompson examines how to expand affordable housing, transform energy infrastructure and spark a new wave of technological breakthroughs. He highlights concrete ways businesses and governments can clear barriers to progress—like reducing red tape to accelerate building—and reveals how rethinking our legal, cultural and political paradigms can open the door to an era of abundance.

Cold Mountain Field Notes
"Cold Mountain Field Notes"
Dr. Christopher Bundrick, USC Lancaster Professor of English
In August of 1997, Charles Frazier's "Cold Mountain" became the number one bestselling book on The New York Times fiction list—a place it occupied for many weeks. Critics raved about its evocative language, its complex take on historical context, its echoes of Homer's Odyssey, but most of all its immersive realism. Follow along as Dr. Bundrick discusses his attempt to rediscover aspects of Frazier's work, immersing himself in the story by recreating parts of the three hundred-mile walk the narrator's made from Raleigh to Cold Mountain, North Carolina.
Presented in person and virtually. To attend via Zoom, register via this link: https://bit.ly/3NvcVeO
